HIGH PRAIRIE
ALMOST due north,
15 miles from The Dalles, Oregon is located High Prairie. It is an
isolated neighborhood, bordering on the north and west by the Kliddtat
River, and on the east by Swale Canyon, and on the south by the Columbia
Mountains. Hartland was its post office. Goldendale is 25 miles to
the east. Lyle is 10 miles to the west.
Farming and stock raising have been its
principal industries.
Indians roamed everywhere in the early
days, and there were several farms, on High Prairie, owned by Indians.
High Prairie now has electricity and
is farmed by most modern methods.
